”Ravi, Shani, Dileepa and Ranga have become enemies of the opposition” President says in Parliament

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake arrived in Parliament today to express his views on the resolution on the eradication of narcotics and the suppression of organized crime that was debated today.

Speaking at the meeting, the President said that corruption, organized crime gangs, drug dealers and crimes should all be suppressed and that although there are laws and state institutions for this, unfortunately the opposition is the main culprit in all of this.

The President also stated that the Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Deputy Inspector General of Police Shani Abeysekara, plays a major role in suppressing crime, but he has become an enemy of the opposition.

Meanwhile, the President said that the Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption Ranga Dissanayake, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security, Minister Ananda Wijepala, Dileepa Peiris on behalf of the Attorney General’s Department and the judiciary have also become enemies of the opposition today.

“Today, fairness, justice, democracy and good governance do not withstand the opposition. If crimes have been committed from within the state with state sponsorship, should the criminals not be exposed? Is it betrayal of the country? Is it treason? No, that is the intention of building a civilized state. Our state should be transformed into a civilized state.”

Our country was a civilized state. We have respect, appreciation and sincerity for our armies and intelligence agencies. But if our armies and intelligence agencies are oppressed anywhere when they perform any role for the security of the state, for the security of the people, we stand by them… If the armies and intelligence agencies have been active for the security of the people, both domestically and internationally, for the security of the country, we are obliged to protect and respect them everywhere. We do that work. But if small groups in the army or intelligence agencies have done something for the state’s interest, for the power of a certain family, for the power of a political camp, our government will not hesitate to give them appropriate punishment. The President said.

Commenting on the assassination of Thajudeen and the Easter attack, President Anura Dissanayake said that all of these were crimes committed with the power of his family and his political camp. He said that behind all this were the operators of a very small state mechanism and said that all these facts should be revealed to the country.
