The management of the Sevanagala unit of Lanka Sugar (Private) Company Limited has decided to close the factory indefinitely until further notice, the company said in a statement.
The statement said that this step was taken with the aim of minimizing the financial loss to the company due to the strike by the employees.
A group of employees at the Sevanagala unit had taken steps to avoid starting production activities from 2.00 pm on the 25th and to prevent any financial loss due to this, employees other than essential services were given leave on the 26th and 27th. Although production activities resumed yesterday (28), the decision to close the factory indefinitely has been made due to the continued strike by the employees.
