Lawyer Rakhitha Rajapaksa, Samagi Jana Balawegaya Horana Electoral Organizer Charitha Wasantha Kumara Abeysinghe and Aruna Varsha Withana, a former director of the Civil Aviation Authority and Airports and Aviation Sri Lanka Limited, who were arrested by the Bribery Commission, have been remanded until the 3rd.
The three have been arrested on charges of accepting bribes from the wife of an organised criminal, Nadun Chinthaka alias ‘Harak Kata’, to separate him from detention orders under the Prevention of Terrorism Act and to send him to a separate prison. They were arrested this morning by the Bribery or Corruption Commission.
The Commission for the Prevention of Bribery and Corruption (CPBC) told the court that they had received a bribe of Rs. 120 million from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officials to keep Nadun Chinthaka, also known as Harak Kata, as an ordinary prisoner.
The Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court, which rejected the bail application of these suspects due to insufficient evidence to grant bail, ordered the suspects to be remanded until July 3rd.
