The police and intelligence agencies have initiated a special investigation into the situation that has arisen following the Vesak festival organized by students of the Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce at the University of Jaffna, Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said.
He stated that the security forces are investigating whether the incident was an act of sabotage of some kind, and that the government will be able to make a specific statement regarding the incident after the current investigation is completed.
He further commented,
“The police reported the matter to me. But I saw it on social media. From what I saw, the student union is represented by Tamil youth. Then they are the ones who are building the Vesak hut. The police and the intelligence department will investigate whether this is some kind of sabotage. They will do so and submit a report. After that, we can say.”
