CID, not present in Suresh Saleh’s case is noticed

The case involving retired Major General Suresh Saleh, who is being interrogated by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) under the provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act, was taken up before Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena today.

However, it is reported that neither the Criminal Investigation Department nor the Attorney General’s Department appeared before the court on behalf of the prosecution at that time.

The lawyers appearing for suspect Major General Suresh Saleh told the court that the prosecution had been informed in advance that a motion would be filed today and that the facts would be presented.

President’s Counsel Shavendra Fernando, who presented evidence before the court, stated that his client, retired Major General Suresh Sale, suffers from severe depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress disorder, and that this condition has been confirmed by medical reports.

The lawyer pointed out to the court that since his client has developed a suicidal tendency due to the severe mental stress, it is essential to pay urgent attention to it.

The President’s Counsel also requested the court to issue an order to detain the retired Major General, who is currently under detention orders, in a suitable environment where he can receive the necessary mental treatment and care.

Considering the urgent and sensitive nature of the matter, the Magistrate ordered that the relevant case be recalled on June 04 at 2.00 pm. Accordingly, Magistrate Pasan Amarasena took steps to issue a notice to the complainant party to appear in court when the case was called.
