The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered the person who introduced the two fake guarantors who came forward to post bail for former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena to be remanded until the 20th.
It is reported that under the direction of Ariya Tissa de Silva, Mohamed Rizwan and Mohamed Irshan, residents of Sanchi Arachchiwatta, near the Aluthkade Court Complex, have posted bail for Kapila Chandrasena.
The Keselwatte Police told the court that statements were also recorded from the Grama Niladhari who issued the Grama Seva certificates presented to the court by the first and second suspects to grant bail, and that these suspects have posted bail frequently.
Accordingly, the first suspect has obtained 10 Grama Seva certificates and the second suspect has obtained 7 Grama Seva certificates from January to May this year, the police said, adding that the two suspects have obtained these Grama Seva certificates by certifying their residence.
Accordingly, the first and second suspects have been posting bail in this manner for some time and the police informed the court that facts have been revealed during the investigations that they are not relatives of the suspect Kapila Chandrasena.
Stating that the suspect named Kapila Chandrasena, who had offered to grant bail to these two suspects, has since died and that a decision has not yet been made on the circumstances leading to his death, the police stated that since the investigations related to this incident have not been completed, these suspects are opposing our requests.
At that time, the lawyer representing the suspects stated before the court that since the prosecution had not presented a specific article regarding the offense committed by these suspects, it was not possible to remand them under the Bail Act.
The lawyer for the suspects also requested the court to issue an order to the police to submit to the court a summary report of evidence indicating the evidence available for each suspect.
Having considered the facts presented, the Magistrate ordered that these suspects be remanded until the 20th.
