The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has instructed the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) to conduct an investigation into allegations that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE)—an organization banned in Sri Lanka—was promoted during a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) rally held in Anuradhapura.
It is reported that the IGP issued this directive based on a complaint received regarding statements made during the rally.
A group of civil society activists lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), alleging that the LTTE organization was promoted or supported through statements made at the rally.
Several opposition politicians, including former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, former ministers, and Members of Parliament, participated in this rally.
