Sandhya Eknaligoda threatened to send a coffin.

Sandhya Eknaligoda says that she is receiving death threats for opposing the promotion of a military intelligence officer, an accused in the Prageeth Eknaligoda case.

She stated this while calling a special press conference today (05).

Speaking at the event, she said that she had protested in writing to the President against the promotion of an officer named Erantha Radiesh Peiris, an accused in the Prageeth Eknaligoda disappearance case, to the rank of Brigadier.

After the President took steps to suspend the promotion, Sandhya Eknaligoda says that she received a phone call on January 16th asking for the length and width of the coffin and receiving death threats.

“They asked me to give them the length and width. When I asked what the length and width were, they said to give me the length and width of your coffin. Your husband also got angry, he threatened you not to get angry either,” she said while presenting the threatening audio recording to the media.

She said that she had complained to the Victims and Witnesses Protection Police Division on January 17 regarding this death threat.

She also said that although she had informed the President in writing on January 19 in this regard, she had not received any response or opportunity to meet with him so far.

Commenting further, she said:

“I think that the accused in a criminal case being heard in court threatening the victims in this way is an insult to the rule of law and the judicial system of the country. According to the telephone recording, it seems that things are going in the direction of “the case belongs to the monk, the goods belong to the monk.” “This case has been going on for 16 years now. I request that it be heard at least three days a week and a verdict be given before the end of this year.”
