The Department of Meteorology states that the low atmospheric disturbance over Sri Lanka may develop into a low pressure area within the next 36 hours.
Accordingly, the low atmospheric disturbance over the Bay of Bengal has developed into a low pressure area and the current rainfall conditions in the island are expected to continue for the next few days, the Department states.
Due to the influence of this system, strong winds may occur in the deep and shallow sea areas around the island and in the deep sea areas of the Bay of Bengal, and the sea areas may become rough.
Also, heavy rains of about 100 mm may occur at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva, Southern, Northwestern, Northern and North Central provinces and in the Trincomalee district.
The Department of Meteorology urges the fishing and maritime community, as well as the public, to remain vigilant regarding these announcements and forecasts.
