The Criminal Investigation Department informed the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court today (05) about the facts uncovered during the investigations conducted on the lawyer named Tamara Kumari Abeyratne, who has been arrested on suspicion of aiding and abetting the murder of underworld leader Ganemulla Sanjeewa.
This was when the complaint was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama.
It was reported to the court that although the Honda Vessel type car, worth about Rs. 25 million, was taken into custody by the police at the time of her arrest, it was confirmed during investigations that it belonged to the suspect lawyer.
A statement obtained from the person has confirmed that the vehicle was purchased by lawyer Tamara Kumari Abeyratne using her personal funds.
Officials of the Criminal Investigation Department informed the court that extensive investigations have already been initiated to find out how she acquired the purchase of this expensive vehicle and the large amount of money circulating in her bank accounts.
It was submitted in court that this suspect had provided the shooter who came to kill Ganemulla Sanjeewa with the necessary facilities to pose as a lawyer.
Accordingly, it has been revealed that she had provided the shooter with two ties worn by lawyers, a sticker with the official logo used for lawyers’ vehicles, books such as the Penal Code and the Code of Criminal Procedure, and photographs required to prepare a fake lawyer’s identity card.
