IGP intervenes in a clash between three-wheeler drivers.

The IGP intervened in the clash between three-wheelers operating through phone applications in many parts of the island based on a difference of opinion that arose between a taxi driver registered with the Pick Me company and three-wheeler taxi drivers in the Ella area on a date in December 2025.

Accordingly, IGP Attorney Priyantha Weerasuriya summoned the heads of the Three-Wheeler Owners’ Association representing both sides of the clash and the heads of Uber and Pick Me companies to the Police Headquarters for discussions.

The IGP explained to all parties that the primary mission of the Sri Lanka Police is to maintain public order, and that when complaints of mob violence, assaults, or threats are reported to police stations, legal action will be taken for a criminal offense, regardless of institutional and associational issues.
