A 14-year-old schoolboy has been arrested by the Eravur police for allegedly killing his 11-year-old sister over a dispute over a mobile phone.
The deceased is an 11-year-old girl named Satyanandan Satheesha, a resident of the Eravur area. The mother of these children is abroad and their father had also gone abroad for work at the time of the incident.
While alone at home, the 14-year-old student had asked his sister for her mobile phone and she had refused to give it to him. The death occurred as a result of an argument that ensued. It has also been revealed that the suspect had gone to a neighboring house to spend time after the murder.
When the father, who had returned home that day after finishing work, checked on his children and found his daughter lying unconscious in the water tank in the bathroom. The girl was taken to hospital but was reportedly dead by then.
The 14-year-old brother has confessed to killing his sister during police questioning. The arrested suspect is scheduled to be produced before the Magistrate’s Court in the near future.
