US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose a 200% tariff on French wine and champagne.
This is said to be an attempt to gain French President Emmanuel Macron’s support for President Trump’s peace council aimed at resolving global conflicts.
Foreign media reports that President Trump made this new tax announcement after it was reported that the French president was going to reject the US president’s proposal to support his effort.
“I will impose a 200% tariff on his wine and champagne, and he will join, but he should not join,” President Trump told the media.
The total value of wine and spirits exported by France to the United States in 2024 exceeded 3.8 billion euros.
