Farming should be watered before electricity.

The government’s decision to raise the water bill of the people who are in dire need due to the economic crisis was taken ‘without a cent’s feeling’ about them, says MP Wimal Weerawansa, leader of the National Freedom Front. He further said that due to the inability to pay their bills, the water connections of about one lakh families have been cut and after the increase of the “water bill” this situation will increase a lot.

He said this while answering a question raised by the journalists about “increasing the water bill by about 50%” after appearing in a case held at the Negombo Magistrate’s Court.

He emphasized that priority should be given to the farmers in the release of irrigation water, otherwise they may starve with the lights on.

“Due to the collapse of the transportation of wheat flour ships through the Black Sea due to the war in Ukraine, there will be an acute shortage of wheat flour in the world in the future. That is why India has stopped exporting rice. At a time when the fear of a food crisis will occur is spreading all over the world, it is necessary to provide the water for our country’s agriculture, especially rice farming. He said.
