India to convert $100 million loan to grant

The Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, has said that the Indian government has converted nearly $100 million in loans to Sri Lanka into grants.

Addressing a group of journalists at the Indian High Commission in Colombo, the High Commissioner, who spoke about the past 2024, said that it was a good year for Indo-Sri Lankan diplomatic relations.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has officially invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Sri Lanka in 2025, but the High Commissioner also told the media that the details of the visit could not be explained at this time.

According to the Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, India’s grant assistance to Sri Lanka currently stands at US$780 million.
