Yoshitha’s case chargesheets revised

The case against former Navy Lieutenant Yoshitha Kanishka Rajapaksa, son of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, for failing to disclose how he earned a fixed deposit of Rs. 596 million, was taken up for hearing before the Colombo High Court yesterday.

The prosecution, who presented evidence before the court, stated that the chargesheet would be revised and maintained in another case filed against Yoshitha Rajapaksa and his grandmother, 98-year-old Daisy Forres, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act.

When the case was taken up for hearing before Colombo High Court Judge Rashmika Singappuli, the defendants who were released on bail appeared before the court.

At that time, State Counsel Oswald Jayasinghe Perera addressed the court and announced the verdict in a case filed by the defendant before the Court of Appeal.

He said that after Daisy Forrest was released from another case pending before the Colombo High Court on medical advice, the charge sheet in that case was amended to only prosecute Yoshitha Rajapaksa.

At that time, the defendants submitted a revised petition before the Court of Appeal stating that only one defendant could be prosecuted under the ‘conspiracy’ charges, and the Court of Appeal rejected the objection.
