Warning about bus fares

The Inter-Provincial Private Bus Association (IPPBA) has informed the government that bus fares may increase by more than 10 percent after the latest national fuel price revision, the association’s chairman Sarath Vijitha Kumara told the media.

Stating that bus owners and passengers have been facing serious difficulties due to the increase in fuel prices several times in the past few months, he said that even though bus fares are high, there is no profit to be made by operating buses at this price of diesel.

Sarath Vijitha Kumara further warned that buses may be withdrawn from service until the government announces new fare adjustments.
