War has severely affected the tea industry.

The war situation in the Middle East region following the US and Israel’s attack on Iran is having a negative impact on Sri Lanka’s tea exports, says Sri Lanka Export Development Board Chairman Mangala Wijesinghe.

About 35% of Sri Lanka’s total tea exports are purchased by Middle Eastern countries. However, he added that these exports are collapsing due to the war situation.

He added that the possibility of exporting the tea stocks currently piled up in warehouses by air or through alternative sea routes is being considered.
