The petition against giving the Nuwara Eliya post office to India will be considered on August 5

The Court of Appeal today ordered to call on August 5th to consider the facts of the petition filed requesting to issue an order annulling the decision taken to transfer the archeologically valuable Nuwara Eliya Post Building to an Indian investor to turn it into a tourism project.

The petition was called yesterday (7) before the Court of Appeal bench consisting of Mr. S.U.B Karaliyedda and Mr. Mayadunne Koraya.

The petition was submitted by Piyasena Kahadagama of Nuwara Eliya district.

The petitioner claimed that the building in question, which belonged to the period of British rule, was designated as an archaeological monument in 2007. The petition indicates that the building has attracted people from all over the world and the government is ready to transfer it to an Indian investor.

The petitioner has sought an order quashing the said decision.
