Police suspect that the Dehiwala hand grenade attack was carried out by the uncle and an associate of ‘Kos Malli’—a criminal figure and close associate of ‘Kudu Avishka’. One of the suspects is a resident of Wanarathana Mawatha, Dehiwala, and reports indicate that several police teams are currently conducting investigations to locate him.
Police have identified both the suspect who threw the hand grenade into the house and the driver of the three-wheeler involved. As both individuals have fled the area, investigations are underway to apprehend them.
The suspect believed to have hurled the grenade at the house is a 26-year-old resident of the Manthrimulla area in Aththidiya. It has been revealed that he was involved in the shooting of the father of ‘Sando’—an organized criminal who worked as a caretaker at the Mount Lavinia General Cemetery—and that he was also responsible for the murder of ‘Kudu Anju’s’ cashier on August 1st.
Reports indicate that the hand grenade attack stemmed from a dispute between the factions of organized criminals ‘Badovita Asanka’ and ‘Kudu Avishka’; police have also obtained CCTV footage showing the suspects departing in a three-wheeler from the Asiri Mawatha area in Nedimala to carry out the attack.
Investigations into the incident are being conducted by a police team operating under the direct supervision of Senior Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ranmal Kodithuwakku, alongside three other police teams led by the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in charge of the Western Province South Division, Samantha Wijesekara.
