The ICT institute says that there has been a cyber attack targeting the e-mail addresses of the government offices. Because of that attack, 5,000 e-mail addresses of 300 government offices including the Cabinet Office have been lost.
Chief Executive Officer Mahesh Perera, who gives more information about this cyber attack, says that it took place between the 17th of May and the 26th of August.
He says that the ICT Institute has provided email facility to several organizations that do not have central email facilities, and that the email system which was installed in 2013 has become outdated and its security applications have been damaged.
However, with the cyber attack on August 26, its CEO Mahesh Perera further said that the system has become unusable, and that the necessary updating and administrative work will be carried out to prevent this from happening in the future.
