The teachers’ unions will meet tomorrow to discuss the issues related to teachers’ promotions, salary increments and service stratification, said Joseph Stalin, Secretary of the Lanka Teachers’ Union.
‘Out of the more than two hundred and forty thousand teachers who are engaged in service, more than one hundred thousand teachers have still not been able to get their promotions. Also, there is no way to get salary increments from them. Also, some of them are not getting their services confirmed.
We saw the Education Minister talking about how to bring A/L students to school. Also, she is talking about implementing new education reforms. She is talking about cleaning the country. She is talking about cleaning the Education Ministry. She is talking about various things. But she will not provide a solution to this major problem faced by teachers.
The Education Secretary finally said that a cabinet paper will be submitted in this regard. It has not been submitted yet. The special thing about this is that the Minister of Education has not spoken to the trade unions in this regard till today.
She only takes advice from officials. She works the way the officials want. There is no discussion regarding these. All she has to do is go to the festivals.
