Israelis banned from entering Maldives

The Maldives has banned Israelis from entering the country in protest at Israel’s war in the Gaza Strip.

President Mohamed Muizzu signed the law into law yesterday after the Maldivian parliament passed the order.

Accordingly, Mohamed Muizzu’s government has decided to ban all Israeli passport holders from entering the Maldives until Israel stops its attacks on Palestine. Although this decision was made last year, the relevant legislation was stalled.

In May 2024, a relevant bill was introduced in the Maldivian Parliament by Mikail Ahmed Naseem, a member of parliament from the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party. But it took time to implement the law, which required amendments to the country’s immigration laws.

Now that all the relevant laws have been passed, the government has banned dual citizens and Israeli passport holders from entering the Maldives.
