Cricket returns to the Olympics.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has approved the Fairgrounds Stadium in Pomona, Southern California, as the cricket venue for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

The International Cricket Council has also decided to include six teams each for the men’s and women’s competitions for the next Olympic Games. ICC President Jay Shah has expressed his views on this matter and said that the ICC looks forward to working with the ICC to ensure the success of cricket at the Games.

“We welcome the announcement of the 2028 Los Angeles cricket venue, which is an important step in preparing for the return of our sport to the Olympics,” said Jay Shah.

The decision to reinstate the sport in Los Angeles was made following an International Olympic Committee meeting in Mumbai in October 2023.

Cricket first made its Olympic debut at the 1900 Paris Olympics. Cricket was included in the Olympic programme at that time, and a match was played between Great Britain and France. It was a two-day match, with teams playing 12 players instead of the usual 11. This match was the only international cricket match played that year.

The 2010, 2014 and 2023 Asian Games featured both men’s and women’s T20 cricket matches, while the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games featured only a women’s match.
