The Indian Foreign Secretary has said that the incident of firing on two Indian-flagged merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz is being taken very seriously.
He said this while commenting on the incident of firing on two Indian oil tankers sailing in the Strait of Hormuz by the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) yesterday. The Iranian Ambassador in New Delhi was summoned to the Indian Ministry of External Affairs today to lodge a protest with the Iranian government in this regard.
Pointing out that the firing on merchant ships is a serious matter, the Foreign Secretary has asked the Ambassador to immediately convey the Indian government’s position on this matter to the Iranian authorities. The Iranian Ambassador has expressed his agreement to this.
