The death toll from the fire that broke out in a two-storey house in Maharagama yesterday has risen to three, police sources say.
The deceased are a mother and daughter who were renting the upper floor of the house. The deceased woman’s husband and the owner of the house have been admitted to hospital with serious injuries. The owner of the house died today, police say.
Police say it has now been revealed that the arson was committed by the owner of the house. There was a smell of petrol at the scene of the crime and during the investigation, it was revealed that this was a double homicide by setting the house on fire.
The reason for the murder has not yet been revealed and the Maharagama Police are conducting further investigations.
