The Court of Appeal today (04) ordered the acquittal of former MP Hirunika Premachandra, concluding the hearing of a petition filed against her.
The hearing was on a petition filed alleging that she had committed contempt of court.
This order was issued after Hirunika Premachandra, through her lawyer, informed that she was withdrawing the statement she made at a press conference regarding an order issued by the Mount Lavinia Magistrate’s Court and that she would not make such statements in future.
The petition was taken up before a bench of the Court of Appeal comprising Justice Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne, the Chairman of the Appeals Division, and Justice Shashi Mahendran.
