According to political sources, there is a secret agreement surrounding the appointment of Dr. Harsha de Silva as the chairman of the State Finance Committee.
Several senior members of the SJB personally requested President Ranil Wickremesinghe to assign those positions to Harsha de Silva. As a result, the President meet Dr. Harsha de Silva before departing for Japan.The President has informed him that if he refrains from interfering with the transaction with the International Monetary Fund, he can be granted the chairmanship of the State Finance Committee.
After Dr. Harsha de Silva agreed to these terms, President Ranil Wickremesinghe proposed his name for the position of Chairman of the State Finance Committee.
