According to political sources, senior members, including the Secretary General of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Dayasiri Jayasekara, have informed the party leader, former President Maithripala Sirisena, that there should be a swift change in the leadership of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party.
Since it is not possible to present a separate candidate from the left parties in the upcoming presidential election, the majority of the party has decided to support Ranil Wickremesinghe, as he is highly likely to become the common candidate.
They have indicated to party leader Maithripala Sirisena that if they are to support the current president, Ranil Wickremesinghe, in the upcoming presidential election, the leadership of the Sri Lankan National Party must change.
