Former Olympic Committee Media Manager Remanded

Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday ordered the remand of Gobinath Sivaraja, former media manager of the Sri Lanka National Olympic Committee, who allegedly attempted to travel abroad secretly from Katunayake Airport in violation of a foreign travel ban issued by the court.

The Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau further informed the court that the suspect was arrested by the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau while trying to leave the country secretly from Katunayake Airport, despite the court’s ban on his foreign travel in relation to financial fraud allegedly committed by the National Olympic Committee.

Gobinath Sivaraja, who is suspected of cheating by taking money from a Chinese company for sports activities, has appeared as the secretary of a sports association called Dance Sport Sri Lanka.

The police told the court that he had committed fraud by claiming that the money was for sports accounts, and the court had issued a foreign travel ban on the suspect in connection with investigations into the financial fraud.

Therefore, the police requested the court to remand the suspect as the investigation has not been completed.
