Court Order on Controversial Baby Death in Matara Hospital

Matara Chief Magistrate Aruna Buddhadasa ordered the Kotawila Police yesterday (27th) to submit the autopsy report on the controversial death of the baby at Matara New District General Hospital and the DNA test report to confirm whether the baby belongs to the same parents.

The magistrate gave this order in the context of continuous accusations by the parents and relatives regarding the death.

Matara Weligama resident Kavindya Madushani was admitted to the Matara New District General Hospital on the 22nd to give birth to her first child, but the hospital authorities told her that the baby had died in the womb.

The relatives stated that despite their requests for the baby’s body, the hospital authorities gave contradictory statements. When they met the hospital director to discuss this, a heated situation arose.

Therefore, they filed a complaint with the Kotawila police regarding the actions of the hospital director.

In response to continuous demands and accusations from the parents and relatives, the hospital authorities presented the body’s body .

Matara Chief Magistrate Aruna Buddhadasa conducted the magisterial examination of the body yesterday afternoon and ordered that the autopsy report and the DNA test report, to confirm whether the baby belongs to the same parents, be submitted to the court.
