Former Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda Indicted

The Bribery Commission has filed indictments before the Colombo High Court against former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son Yoshitha Rajapaksa and former Navy Commander Wasantha Karannagoda on a corruption charge.

This is in connection with the fact that Wasantha Karannagoda, who was serving as the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy between September 1, 2006 and June 8, 2007, had Yoshitha Rajapaksa participate in the Royal Navy Young Officers Course at the Royal Naval Training College in Britain, contrary to the law at that time. He has been accused of causing a loss to the government through that act.

In addition, the accused Yoshitha Rajapaksa has been charged with obtaining undue profit through that act.

The Bribery Commission has filed 08 indictments against the accused. The court is scheduled to issue summons to the defendants in the future to hand over the charges.
