Discussion between President and mill owners to end rice shortage

A discussion was held between President Anura Kumara Dissanayake and small and medium-scale rice mill owners at the Presidential Secretariat today (02).

The President pointed out to the small and medium-scale rice mill owners the need to provide rice to the consumers without shortage, at a reasonable price and continuously in the coming months and discussed with them the urgent steps to be taken for that purpose.

The steps to be taken to increase storage facilities in the country to provide rice to the people without shortage were also discussed.

Attention was also drawn to the fact that the stocks required for consumption are decreasing due to the use of Nadu rice for value-added products.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake also drew attention to the introduction of a QR code system with the aim of effectively adding fertilizer subsidy to national production.

Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe, Lak Sathosa Chairman Dr. Samitha Perera, officials and a group of small and medium scale rice mill owners participated in this discussion.
