Protest in front of the Ministry of Education. Four arrested

Our correspondents say that a tense situation has been reported after the police intervened in the protest of the Joint School Development Officers’ Association.

The situation has arisen after the police prevented the protesters who had come from Battaramulla to the Ministry of Education in Pelawatte, demanding the immediate appointment of all School Development Officers as teachers, from entering the ministry.

The police have arrested four people during the protest. The protesters said that they will not join the talks until they are released.

The protesters said that they were not subjected to such repression even during the previous government, and that the repression had begun less than a month after the formation of the new government. By Senuda Amarawickrama
