Former Minister Bandula Gunawardena was summoned to the Criminal Investigation Department today (03).
This was to record statements in connection with an investigation into a complaint received during the Gotabhaya Rajapaksa government that a tax fraud had occurred in the importation of sugar.
This complaint has been received regarding an incident in which the government was allegedly deprived of revenue due to the reduction of the special commodity duty imposed on sugar from fifty rupees to 25 cents.
Mr. Bandula Gunawardena served as the then Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security. The Criminal Investigation Department has also asked him to bring any files related to the incident and bring them.
