Death sentence for the person who killed the police officer

After an 18-year-long trial, the Balapitiya High Court has finally sentenced the accused who killed a police officer who went on a raid in the Baddegama area.

On a day in 2008, two officers attached to the Baddegama Police, Dilip Kumarasinghe (15615) and Police Sergeant Jagath Nandana (50472), had gone on a raid and shot and killed a police constable named Dilip Kumarasinghe, who was a resident of Randombe, Balapitiya.

Accordingly, the Baddegama Police had filed a case against one male and three female defendants in the Balapitiya High Court in connection with this murder. One of the defendants was sentenced to death, while Balapitiya High Court Judge Ruchira Weliwatte ordered the acquittal and release of the other three.
