The Supreme Court today ordered the Election Commission to immediately hold elections in the Samanthurai Municipal Council and Kalmunai Pradeshiya Sabha.

The Supreme Court, which ordered the Minister of Local Government to immediately commence the delimitation work for the Samanthurai Municipal Council, also ordered the President to publish the delimitation work for the Kalmunai Pradeshiya Sabha and Samanthurai Urban Councils through the Gazette Notifications after the completion of the delimitation work.

This order was issued after hearing a petition filed by voters named Mohamed Salin and Mohamed Asim, residents of Samanthurai. The petition was heard before a bench of Supreme Court Justices Janak de Silva, Priyantha Fernando and Sampath Abhayakoon.
