The Death of the Young Man Who Jumped from the Expressway Bridge Was a Suicide

A 19-year-old university student recently fell from the flyover onto the highway and died. Evidence suggests it was a suicide.

The police said that the death of the university student, who fell from the flyover and collided with a car bound mathara near the Homagama Hospital, of the Southern Expressway, may have been a suicide.

The deceased student, Menath Banuja, was a 19-year-old resident of the Athurugiriya area. The incident took place on May 23 at around 7:00 pm. He was seriously injured in a collision with a car after falling and died after being admitted to Homagama Base Hospital.

After the incident, the police checked the student’s house and reported finding a suicide note. The note, written in English, mentioned his personal problems and stated that he was going to commit suicide.

According to the police, it is suspected that the young man deliberately went to the bridge to commit suicide.

The car involved in the accident was damaged, and the driver was arrested for further questioning.
