It is reported that there are preparations to expand the activities of the Bribery or Corruption Investigation Commission to the village level. Accordingly, 23 new regional offices are scheduled to be opened across the island.
Bribery Commission Director General Ranga Dissanayake stated that all these regional offices will be opened and completed by December this year.
According to the existing system, people living in different parts of the country had to come to the head office in Colombo to complain and provide evidence regarding bribery or corruption. The Director General stated that it was decided to establish new regional offices considering the severe inconvenience faced by the people.
Complaints will be received at the regional level, as well as investigated and prosecuted through this new network of offices.
