Arrest of crores worth of drugs sent by mail

The Sri Lankan Customs branch operating in the Central mail Exchange has managed to seize a consignment of drugs called kush and intoxicating pills worth over one crore rupees.

These drugs were sent from European countries to fake addresses in Sri Lanka.

Officers of the Customs Narcotics Control Unit found the drugs among parcels sent from Germany and the United Kingdom following a search in the Central Mail Exchange.

The parcels contained 1.74 kilograms of ‘Kush’ cannabis, 2,193 ecstasy pills of methamphetamine and 29 grams of amphetamine.

These parcels were addressed to recipients in Colombo, Battaramulla, Maharagama, Boralasgamuwa, Panadura, Moratuwa and Kandy, but it was revealed that they were all fake addresses, said Customs spokesperson Sivali Arukgoda.
