An LPL team owner arrested for match-fixing.

A Bangladeshi who owns a team in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) has been arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport on charges of match-fixing.

An official from the Sports Ministry’s Special Investigation Unit for the Prevention of Sports-related Offenses confirmed the arrest of the British national. The arrested suspect, Tamim Rahman, is to be presented to the court for further proceedings.

Last April, the Dambulla team was bought by Bangladeshi entrepreneur-led Imperial Sports Group.

LPL’s Tournament Director Samantha Dodanwela refused to comment on this. He said that he could not make a statement as the nature of the charges against the arrested suspect was still unclear.

The LPL player auction was held yesterday and was overseen by a group of members of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
