The Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government has issued a new circular with the aim of making the solid waste management process in government institutions more successful.
The circular containing these new regulations has been sent to all secretaries of ministries, provincial chief secretaries, heads of departments as well as heads of state corporations and statutory boards and will come into force from May 31st.
Accordingly, with effect from May 31st, the purchase and use of single-use plastic water bottles in all government institutions should be completely stopped.
In addition, it is emphasized that all heads of relevant institutions should take necessary steps to prevent the use of single-use plastic materials in government institutions.
In addition to the regulations introduced by this new circular, the regulations contained in the Public Administration Circular issued on April 2nd last year will also continue to be implemented in the same manner.
Accordingly, it is mandatory for every government institution to adhere to the “Three R” (3R) concept (waste reduction, reuse and recycling).
