Lieutenant Commander J.M.C. Jayakody, a senior officer in the Navy, has been attacked by a wild elephant.
The attack took place after he returned to his duty station, the Pune Naval Base, after he had gone to Colombo for official duty. The officer was reportedly attacked by the elephant as soon as he got out of his vehicle after arriving at the Punewa naval base.
The seriously injured naval officer was reported to have died when he was admitted to the Vavuniya General Hospital by naval officers. The deceased naval officer is a resident of Kurunegala
