A decision from the Attorney General’s Department regarding Ranil’s case.

The Attorney General’s Department has instructed the Criminal Investigation Department to formally obtain information regarding the invitation extended to former President Ranil Wickremesinghe by the University of Wolverhampton in the UK under the Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Act.

A letter sent to the Criminal Investigation Department, signed by State Counsel Sajith Bandara, has instructed the Criminal Investigation Department to submit a formal application to obtain the relevant information under the Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters Act No. 25 of 2002.

When the case was taken up before the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court this week, the Criminal Investigation Department informed the court that it would study the letter of instructions received from the Attorney General’s Department and inform the court about the next steps.
