A group of civil society activists held a protest in Hatton yesterday demanding the protection of the people of the plantation area, land ownership and the rights of other ethnic groups in this country.
This protest, held under the slogan ‘If you hit, you will hit, you have endured’, was organized by the Kandurata Janatha Peramuna.
Highlighting the incident in which the security forces of a private plantation company in the Neelgama area of the Kahawatte area of Ratnapura allegedly demolished temporary houses built by plantation workers, the civil society activists held this protest, saying that the people of the plantation area should have stood up for it.
They said that such incidents would not be allowed to happen in the plantation area anymore, and that even if they did, they had sharp weapons inherited from their generations, but they had not used them yet, and that they would have to use them in the future.
