Bus fares will not be increased due to yesterday’s fuel price increase.

The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation increased the price of a liter of white diesel by Rs. 15 and the price of a liter of super diesel by Rs. 20 in the fuel price revision effective from midnight yesterday (30), but the National Transport Commission (NTC) stated that there will be no revision in bus fares due to the price increase.

However, the Lanka Private Bus Owners Association, which commented on this matter, says that a 5% revision in bus fares should be made due to the increase in diesel prices in the fuel price revision carried out yesterday.

Expressing further views, the President of the association, Gemunu Wijeratne, says that a request has been made to the National Transport Commission to revise the toll fee by 5%. He also said that this price revision should be implemented before the annual bus fare revision scheduled for July.

Accordingly, he stated that bus owners are demanding a 5% fare increase with effect from the second of next month.
