Army protests Dilipa Peiris’ statement .

A senior army officer has expressed his strong displeasure over a statement made in open court by Additional Solicitor General Dilipa Peiris that some army officers are obstructing the ongoing investigations into the Easter Sunday terror attacks, the Sunday Times reports.

According to a notification made through an officer of the Army Legal Division, a telephone conversation was held between the Additional Solicitor General and the senior army officer in question. Although the officer stated that the army would support the investigations during the conversation, the Deputy Solicitor General has denied it and given reasons. The conversation has taken a heated turn with the officer alleging that the army has been severely inconvenienced by the Additional Solicitor General’s statements.

During this conversation, the military officer in question reportedly said that if the Additional Solicitor General continued to make such statements, he would have to complain to the President.

The Deputy Solicitor General reportedly alleged that military intelligence had provided funds to obtain legal assistance for suspects arrested in connection with the Easter attacks.
