500 new villages named Ceylon Tea Villages to boost tea cultivation

The Ministry of Plantations and Community Infrastructure Development and the Sri Lanka Tea Board have planned to start five hundred Ceylon Tea Villages across the island and thereby popularize tea cultivation, Minister Samanta Vidyarathana said.

This new program is to be implemented by involving small-scale tea estate owners. The Minister said that the proposed 500 ”Ceylon Tea Villages” are expected to provide the necessary technology and knowledge and thereby increase the production of high-quality tea.

In addition to this program, the Minister also stated that steps will be taken to provide subsidized fertilizer to tea manufacturers and that necessary arrangements have been made to allocate Rs. 2500 million from the Treasury for this.
