Minister Nalinda Jayatissa expresses views on the excrement attack on Sugeeshwara Bandara.

Cabinet Media Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa expressed her views at the media briefing held yesterday (28) to inform the Cabinet of the decisions regarding the excrement attack on Sugeeshwara Bandara, a personal secretary of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, and the protests in front of private homes.

Stating that any person has a fundamental human right to hold an opinion and express opinions contrary to their own, the Minister emphasized that there is no room in law for harming peaceful coexistence or damaging property in exercising that right.

However, the Minister said that if they complain to the police about the attack on Sugeeshwara Bandara and others, a formal investigation will be conducted into the matter.

Although some media reports said that the group came from the Pelawatte area, the Minister said that the government does not have specific information on whether the group came from Pelawatte or from another place. The Minister pointed out that such facts should generally be confirmed through formal police investigations, and that the nature of the attack and other related matters are best left to the law.

He stated that no one has been given the power by law to disrupt the peaceful life of the people, and that such incidents may lead to some reactions or disturbances from the people, and that he has not yet received any official police reports on the matter.
