Permission to detain and question Devananda.

The Criminal Investigation Department has reportedly obtained a 72-hour detention order to detain and question former Minister Douglas Devananda .

He was arrested yesterday by the Investigation Division of the Criminal Investigation Department in connection with an investigation into the disappearance of a pistol.

A firearm given to him by the Army for his personal use in 2001 was recovered in 2019 based on information received from an organized criminal, Makandure Madush. He was arrested yesterday in connection with the investigations in this regard.

Upon checking the serial number of the weapon, it was revealed that the firearm in question was issued to Douglas Devananda. However, he has been arrested for failing to make a statement regarding the manner in which the firearm given to him disappeared.
